As we turn the calendar to June, we are ready to celebrate Pride Month both in the real world and the metaverse. Additionally, we’re sharing a family-friendly podcast that might come in handy on your summer road trips, how to react with an Instagram avatar and what social media tools made the TikTok Marketing Partners cut.
June marks the recognition of Pride Month, an annual observance to honor and celebrate LGBTQ voices and uphold justice for all. This year, NYX Professional Makeup is hosting Pride Month celebrations in the metaverse. The brand’s new campaign, ‘Paint Your Own Story,’ will feature activities, live performances and the first-ever virtual meta-pride parade on June 24. As the first cosmetics brand to be integrated into The Sandbox, NYX Professional Makeup is highlighting inclusivity by launching non-fungible token (NFT) avatars that include over 36 skin shades. In addition, NYX will donate 100% of the NFT proceeds to the Los Angeles LGBT Center with up to a total of $50,000.
American Girl by Mattel has become a household name. With dolls and books that span a variety of eras and backgrounds, the brand is now reaching consumers in the audible space. With summer road trip season upon us, this is the perfect family-friendly podcast to play on those upcoming travels. In fact, 48% of children between the ages of 13 and 17 are likely to listen to podcasts, according to a study in 2020. With a focus on diversity, the American Girl brand is striving to connect with its audience in a more relevant way.
Have you shared your Netflix password lately? The popular streaming service has been in the headlines over recent weeks for mass layoffs, the possible launch of advertising subscriptions and now, it’s said to be cracking down on password sharing. But, before you go changing your password so your friend’s neighbor’s brother can no longer access your account, we’re sharing a few tidbits on the latest trial of this policy. Apparently, Netflix has been monitoring password sharing in three Latin American countries due to the company’s recent subscriber loss. Technically, subscribers in the trial areas are subject to a $2.99 charge for every additional person that uses their account outside of their household. But, the term “household” has been causing a bit of confusion as to who exactly can share one account. We’re binging this Netflix news and will bring you more updates as they are released.
As creators post more content, users are gaining more ways to react. At the same time, users are also granted more engaging ways to show their reactions. For example, Meta is rolling out a test for avatar reactions in Instagram Stories. As metaverse consumers continue to express themselves with digital avatars, the social giant is now testing the use of these self-expressive characters on Instagram. Some users are given the option of responding to Stories with an Emoji or an Avatar. Once the Avatar option is tapped, the user is prompted to create a custom avatar character to use across the platform. Our Bolt Digital team is on the lookout for a further rollout of this test, but for now, we’ll keep our avatars on standby.
We can hear the celebrations from social media managers across the digital world! Indeed, TikTok has now made its way to popular social media management tools. Last week, TikTok added a list of social media partners that allows content creators and social media managers alike to schedule and publish content to the platform boasting one billion monthly active users. The TikTok Marketing Partners Program includes Brandwatch, Dash Hudson, Emplifi, Hootsuite, Khoros, Later, Sprinklr, and Sprout Social.
As we regroup from the long weekend and look ahead to the month of June, our Bolt team is feeling the jolt of energy from these hot topics. From the first-of-its-kind Metaverse Pride Parade, the new American Girl podcast, Netflix password struggles, avatar reactions, and TikTok marketing partners, day one of June is overflowing with information. We can’t wait to meet you back here next week for more.
